Welcome

Thanks for the categorization and welcome! Best, MarkDilley

Hi MarkDilley, thank you for your cordial welcome on this wiki. Actually my change how to get the button running on MediaWiki was even more valuable. ;-) I will see to it, that the main page gets translated into German. Cheers --kgh 22:59, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
umm - *awesome* regarding the German translation :-)
I missed that! Many thanks and dang! I thought that the flag was set to true already :-( ~~ MarkDilley
No worries. However, it is not only a matter of setting the parameter to true. An admin has to insert the parameter as such into LocalSettings.php. Hmm, I think a bug should be filed to have this inserted automatically upon installation. Cheers --kgh 08:40, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
I filed a bug. I am sure it would help if you vote and comment on it, too. Cheers --kgh 13:37, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Upgrade

Hi - we don't have a clear upgrade path yet. Thanks for the note! Best, MarkDilley

also added it to Suggestions
Cool, thank your for your information and for putting this on Suggestions. I was not really aware of the Suggestions page. Cheers --kgh 23:20, 22 July 2010 (UTC) PS I would not advise to put the upgrade on the back burner.

Great idea

Thanks for filing that bug - sorry if I didn't quite get it right :-) Best, MarkDilley

Inspired by your energy!

Great work - I have a question about MediaWiki talk:Common.css‎. Best, MarkDilley

:) --kgh 11:22, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

It is a wiki - so there is always revert! :-) ~~ MarkDilley

Flat wiki space conversation

responded here. :-) MarkDilley

Seriously thrilled

your participation here is great! ~~ MarkDilley

Thank you for cheering me up. I very much appreciate it. Cheers --kgh 21:39, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

I like it!

although it doesn't appear to be the same color - maybe because it is so solid? Best, MarkDilley

People and colour

In the early wiki communities I am a part of, pre-wikipedia, we allow changing of people's words, as long as meaning isn't changed. So tone, style, etc... are ok. Glad you didn't mind :-) Also, I do believe that it is the same colour, just doesn't look it! :-) Best, MarkDilley

Real names

Hello - I would prefer that we kept real people with real names in the main name space. Trying to make it consistant like that, with folks like yourself who have pseudonyms in the user namespace. That kind of consistency is important to me - in a wiki world that is not dominated by Mediawiki software. Look forward to discussing this. Best, MarkDilley

No problem at all. I just entered my pseudonym into the main name space since Waldir's was there too. Where is the connection to MediaWiki software? Cheers --kgh 17:31, 6 August 2010 (UTC)

Just did a few edits to hopefully show what I am trying to mention. Let me know if this helps or not. Best, MarkDilley

It is a good idea with the sidebar. This makes things easier. Moving "real" people to the main namespace is nonsense, e. g. I am a real person, too. Cheers --kgh 19:10, 6 August 2010 (UTC) PS Still, you may do so if you like.

Yes, you are a real person, but I don't know who you are, all I know is an anonymous pseudonym - I do a google search and can find a reputation associated with the pseudonym - but I don't know who you are. I look at the whois for a related .de website and see a name, but don't know if that is you. Here is the tradition I am coming from: Wiki:RealName and Meatball:RealName. Does that make sense, instead of nonsense? :-) Regardless, I moved your name earlier into main namespace. Best, MarkDilley

That's true. To be frank and make things even more complicated I am widely and better known by another pseudonym whilst my real name is generally unknown. Usually I only register with my real name if the site explicitly asks for it. The more important thing is that I am always the same kgh talking to you on this wiki. This makes me real and distinguishable. At some occasions in real life I even allowed people to chose a first name for me they like better. Weird isn't it. :-) Still I do not think "real names" or pseudonyms belong into the main namespace. However, as I said before, you built this community, thus your point of view is naturally stronger on this wiki. That is more than fair.

re: thanks

No problem :) I actually didn't even notice it was you from the email :P --Waldir 14:16, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

My thoughts exactly! Cheers, Waldir 19:20, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for catching spam

Hello - glad to come here and have it caught! Best, MarkDilley

Thank you. :) Luckily spam is only an occasional problem on this wiki. Touching wood. Besides Waldir has an eye on this wiki too, which sums up to three caretakers of this wiki. Cheers --kgh 20:20, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

yuck

will try to get an additional captcha on this wiki

The latest version of ConfirmEdit which was released a fortnight ago is pretty cool since it provides all sorts of CAPTCHAS out of the box. Cheers --kgh 20:01, 17 February 2011 (UTC)
Spam seems to be prevalent on this wiki despite the captcha extensions. Any ideas on how we could better fight it? I mean, with automated tools, rather than spending our time cleaning up. --Waldir 13:10, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Actually the software of this wiki is pretty outdated including the spam prevention feature. The latest version of ConfirmEdit provides ReCAPTCHA out of the box. Additionally Bad Behavior would take a bite out of spam. I am afraid that both versions are not compatible with this version of MW. Let us hope for an upgrade of the software. Cheers --kgh 14:46, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Will try to get this wiki upgraded - If I can't - can either of you upgrade if I get access? Best, MarkDilley
This would be cool. Jep, it would be possible for me to upgrade. Cheers --kgh 16:08, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
Any updates on the upgrade? --Waldir 00:05, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
No. I believe that Mark is working on it. Cheers --kgh 12:05, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I exchanged emails with him yesterday and he assured me he hadn't forgotten. :) It doesn't depend entirely on him, so as soon as he gets the chance, he'll have it done :) --Waldir 13:43, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Good to know. That is what I thought and because of this I am stoically deleting the spam as it comes in. :) Cheers --kgh 13:45, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Maybe to add ==<center> to antispam filter?

We appear under attack of some relatively simple spam bot that always puts the ==<center> fragment in its new page. No editor in the sane mind would put such a sequence. Maybe we could block the bot by rejecting new pages containing this substring? Some bots are written so much concentrating on bypassing the single particular barrier that may suddenly fail against something much more trivial Audriusa 13:40, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, but the current installation does not afaik support this. Mark is currently checking who this wiki could be upgraded and enhanced. Thank you for being here! Cheers --kgh 14:52, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

ROCKING!

Was that you? :-) Best, MarkDilley

Yep. :) --kgh 22:11, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks

...for mentioning me in your userpage bio :) It's always good to see our work being appreciated. You evidently deserve the same recognition, so thanks also for helping out here, it's been invaluable! Cheers, Waldir 12:08, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

You are welcome and in return thank you for your appreciation! It is nice to see that you are still monitoring this wiki, too. We run across each other throughout the wikiverse or wikilandia - which is good. :) Cheers --[[kgh]] 14:15, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
