Worum handelt es sich?

Beim „Universellen Bearbeitungsknopf“ (engl. Universal Edit Button) handelt es sich um ein grünes Icon in Form eines stilisierten Bleistiftes, welches ganz rechts im Adressfeld der Navigationsleiste eines Browsers eingeblendet wird und dadurch anzeigt, das die im aktuellen Browserfenster sichtbare Webseite bearbeitet werden kann. Er ist damit ähnlich dem orangefarbenen RSS-Icon , welches anzeigt, dass für die aktuell sichtbare Webseite ein RSS-Feed verfügbar ist.

Der „Universelle Bearbeitungsknopf“ ist aktuell für die Browser Firefox (Installationshinweise), Opera und Chrome - (ebenso für die Content-Management-Systeme Wordpress und Drupal). Wir erwarten, dass der „Universelle Bearbeitungsknopf“ künftig bei den Browsern standardmäßig genutzt werden kann, wie dies bereits analog für RSS-Feeds der Fall ist.

Warum der „Universelle Bearbeitungsknopf“ wichtig ist

Der „Universelle Bearbeitungsknopf“ (UEB) ermöglicht es Internetnutzern schneller zu erkennen, ob eine Webseite bearbeitbar ist. Den Internetnutzern, die bereits Internetinhalte erstellen, ist er eine Arbeitserleichterung, während er den anderen eine Einladung ist, es ebenso zu tun.

Sobald das Bearbeiten von Webseiten allgemein üblich ist, könnte der „Universelle Bearbeitungsknopf“ zu einer Art Ehrenzeichen werden. Er könnte in diesen Fall als ein Anreiz für Unternehmen und Websiteentwickler dienen, allgemein bearbeitbare Bestandteile in ihre Websites zu integrieren, damit der „Universelle Bearbeitungsknopf“ auch für deren Websites angezeigt wird.

Wir hoffen, dass dieser Knopf die Verbreitung des frei bearbeitbaren Internets fördert und dabei den gesellschaftlichen Trend zum gemeinsamen Erarbeiten allgemein verfügbarer Inhalte beschleunigt.

Hintergrundinformationen

Tim Berners-Lees anfängliche Vision vom Internet war die eines les- sowie beschreibbaren Mediums. Als jedoch das Internet heranreifte, ermöglichten nur sehr wenige Websites den Nutzern die Möglichkeit des Schreibens und Bearbeitens. Das Internet wurde primär zu einem ausschließlichen „Lesemedium“. Jeder konnte so im Internet surfen, aber wenige davon kamen in den Genuss des Bearbeitens.

Über die Jahre verbreiteten Praktiker sowie andere aufgeschlossene Menschen die Idee, dass das Internet von jedermann zu jeder Zeit „bearbeitbar“ sein sollte. Der Erfolg der Wikipedia und die zunehmende Verwendung von Wikis wie wikiHow, AboutUs, wikiTravel und Wikia zeigen deutlich, dass freies Bearbeiten qualitativ hochwertige Informationsquellen schafft. Ausschließlich „lesbare“ Websites eröffnen ihren Besuchern inzwischen zunehmend die Möglichkeit sich zu beteiligen. Wikis treten in Unternehmenssoftware sowie bei Konsumentenwebsites auf, beispielsweise bei denen von Internetgiganten wie Google. Da das Internet von Tag zu Tag „bearbeitbarer“ wird, werden dessen Nutzer immer versierter und kreativer im Einsatz der Hilfsmittel, die den Informationsaustausch ermöglichen.

Die Geschichte des „Universellen Bearbeitungsknopfs“

Gespräche zu dies Idee begannen beim RoCoCo (einem RecentChangesCamp (RCC)) in Montreal 2007 und wurden hernach auf dem Wiki von AboutUs weitergeführt. Beim RCC in Palo Alto 2008 untersuchten eine handvoll Leute die Idee, begeisterten sich für die automatische Erkennung und unterstützen die weitere Verbreitung dieser Idee

Eine Vielzahl Ideen wurden von Wikibenutzern bezüglich der Gestaltung des Icons für den „Universellen Bearbeitungsknopf“ gemacht, was sich im Logo dieser Website zeigt. Die erste Version des Icons geht auf den Vorschlag zurück, den Ward Cunningham gleich zu Anfang der entsprechenden Diskussion gemacht hatte. Im Nachhinein wurde ein neues Design des Icons () gemäß einem Vorschlag von Lorenzo Pastrana angenommen.

Die erste Version der Softwareerweiterung für Firefox wurde von Andreas Gohr aktualisiert, um Softwarefehler zu beseitigen sowie das neue Design zu implementieren.

Unser Ziel ist es einen Bearbeitungsknopf zu fördern, der plattformübergreifend funktioniert (allem voran Wikis), unabhängig von einer bestimmten Sprache sowie einfach ist, jedoch wieder erkennbar in Bezug auf das ist, was es bedeutet Bearbeitungen durchführen zu können.
